Monsanto is one of the most - attractive villages, not only in Portugal but also in Europe. "Monsanto" means "sacred forest" .Seltseto was founded in the 12th century. The founders of the village took practical and reasonable solution to build their homes in the space between huge boulders and rock formations so by human hands and received a unique creation. Huge stones are part of the home such as a wall, roof, floor, balcony and both locals say here: "At Monsanto we do not know where it ends and begins the stone house"
